Months after the government cancelled a number of betting firms over licensing and tax issues, the state has released a number of others whose licenses have been renewed.

This means that the firms are free to continue with their operations, though a number remain out of operations owing to tussles with the relevant state bodies.

Those who have had their licenses renewed include OdiBets, one of the tastes growing betting firms in the country currently, and which was among the first to be cleared.

Others are Mozzartbet and Defabet, with the list also including Palms Bet, Bet Boss, Kickoff, Lucky 2U and Betika. Also cleared to operate are Eastleigh Bet, Ken Bookmakers and Eazi Bet.

In April, the government through Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi ordered the firms to seek fresh licenses after proving tax compliance.

After the July 1 deadline, a number of others, including giant firm SportPesa and Betin landed on the receiving end, and are yet to be allowed back even after a series of suits.

SportPesa recently announced that it will he soon resuming operations, and is only awaiting the greenlight from the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB).

This is after it was cleared by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) on tax issues.
