Speaking in Ruiru sub-county in on Friday afternoon, Kobia wondered why many parents discourage their children from pursuing technical courses.

“Technical courses are the basis of job skills and exposure to the job market, it gives a platform for students to put into practice theoretical concepts”, she said.

The CS insisted that technical institutions are important because they even offer practical skills that many universities don’t have.

She highlighted that even her academic and career success is a product of technical courses.

“Youths should not shy away from studying courses at technical training institutions since even most employers nowadays trust people who have gone through technical courses”, she added.

The sentiments come amid claims by technical institutions administrators that the number of students seeking admission has reduced.

She pleaded with the youths to consider enrolling for technical courses so as to polish their skills and enable them to become job oriented.

“In fact most youths have degree or diploma certificates but they lack the skills required to adequately deliver when they get to the job industry, so enrolling for a technical course will definitely give them room to get skills”, she noted.

She pleaded with young people to avoid the notion that technical institutions are meant for people who did not perform well in high school.

"Presided over the graduation ceremony of youth who have completed technical and vocational skills training in Kiambu County today. I also issued KES. 5.5 million for Bursary and Economic Empowerment and equipment worth KES. 1.5 million from @NGAAF_KE".
