While voting to reject the Bill which is being engineered by constitutional lawyer and former Presidential aspirant Dr Ekuru Aukot, the MCAs said the proposals are not practical.

Nyeri becomes the first assembly to reject the bill, thus throwing the Punguza Mizigo team on a wrong foot, with 46 more counties yet to vote.

Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru, took to her social media to celebrate the outcome, insisting that Mt Kenya region will only back recommendations by Building Bridges Initiative.

"I've said before , Mt. Kenya is fully in support of BBI as evidenced today in Nyeri County where the bill presented by Ekuru Aukot has been rejected by the whole assembly," she wrote.

"Nyeri County, has set the precedence, other counties are most likely to follow. These are signs of the times ahead," she added.

But on how Twitter, Dr Aukot took a swipe at Mrs Waiguru, arguing that should could be afraid of possibilities of her alleged involvement in National Youth Service thuggery revisited.

"Could events of NYS 1 be worrying the Governor? #PunguzaMizigoBill2019 is revisiting events in its proposals," argued Dr Aukot.

For the Bill to have chances of progressing for discussion at the Parliament or for referendum, Dr Aukot must lobby for support from 24 County Assemblies.

All major parties have dismissed the bill, with party leaders insisting that there was no broader public participation, a claim dismissed by Punguza Mizigo proponents.
