A group of more than 10 suspected Al Shabaab terrorists attacked a village in Garissa County early Tuesday morning leaving four dead.
The terrorists are reported to have launched the attack at around 5 AM. They then proceeded to destroy a communication device in the area before the police caught up with them.
Police managed to gun down two of the terrorists after a heavy fire exchange.
“Two of the attackers have been killed. They had killed four people and were now trying to destroy a communication mast when they were engaged by officers," said Police Spokesman Charles Owino.
Owino added that the terrorists were in a group of at least ten heavily armed people.
“Security has been beefed up in the area,” Owino added.
This happens just a few days after another deadly attack in Lamu where Al Shabaab terrorists attacked a US military base.
The Sunday attack left at least three people death, a US soldier and two US civilians.
At least 5 Al Shabaab terrorists were gunned down.
Gen Stephen Townsend, commander of US Africa Command in a statement said the attackers will be pursued to the end.
"As we honour their sacrifice, let's also harden our resolve. Alongside our African and international partners, we will pursue those responsible for this attack and al-Shabab, who seek to harm Americans and US interests," he said.
