Eight people were on Tuesday arrested for allegedly defrauding innocent job seekers, and promising them jobs in the Middle east.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the eight identified as; Stella Cheruto, Mary Ogolla, Aisha Mohammed, Joseph Gikonyo, Catherine Ngendoi, Frankline Otieno and Habiba Shaffi were arrested in two hotels in the city.
"Eight fraud suspects who have been collecting money from unsuspecting job seekers in a Kuwait job sham were last night arrested at 680 and Clarrion Hotels in Nairobi by DCI Detectives from Central Police station. By 16/9/19, over 300 victims who have been defrauded up to Sh130,000 each allegedly to cater for logistics, training and transport to Kuwait were waiting in vain for their journey to mature," read a tweet by the DCI.
The investigative agency noted that one of the suspects believed to be the one receiving money collected from those defrauded was at large, adding that they are pursuing her.
"A suspect at large, allegedly from NYS Headquarters has been receiving the money estimated to be in the range of millions, with the promise that the group would be transported to NYS headquarters before exit to JKIA. She is being sought and interrogation of the eight ongoing," said the DCI.
