The former model was also accused of money laundering and fraud, claims which she refuted before Harare Magistrate court.

Police accused of illegally transferring almost US$1m (Sh100 million) overseas to purchase luxury cars and property, and faces additional charges of attempted murder.

However, the most shocking charges include that of plotting against her husband, with the incident allegedly taking place this year in July in a South African hospital.

Mubaiwa allegedly went to the hospital on July 8, asked the security to leave the room and "while alone" with Chiwenga, she "unlawfully removed the medical intravenous drip as well as a central venous catheter", causing him to bleed profusely, according to the charge sheet.

She forced her husband off the hospital bed and tried to lead him out of the ward before being intercepted by his security details, it was alleged.

Chiwenga is suffering from an oesophagus ailment making it difficult for him to eat.

The vice-president was later treated in China and has since returned to Zimbabwe. His wife has said she is innocent of any wrongdoing.

After her court appearance, her father, Kenny Mubaiwa, told reporters: 'Justice will prevail at the end of the day so you don't have to worry.'

She has since been remanded until December 30th when the court is set to hear and determine her bail application.

Chiwenga is accused of orchestrating her wife's woes after it emerged that she's pushing for a divorce.

Chiwenga, a former military chief, played a key role in the ouster of Robert Mugabe in November 2017. He resigned after being appointed as vice president by Emmerson Mnangagwa.
