The County Government of Uasin Gishu together with wellwishers has collected over Sh1 million that will be used to help the needy during the festive season.
Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno revealed the amount collected during the governor's Christmas tree lighting ceremony at the county headquarters in Eldoret on Tuesday.
Speaking during the event, Chemno called on residents to extend their generosity to the less fortunate members of the society during this festive season.
He said residents should be mindful of their neighbours citing that this is a moment of embracing each other in need.
“We should help those who are less fortunate in the society. Let us make our contribution and touch their lives during this festive season for them to be happy just like other Kenyans,” he said.
“County government in partnership with sponsors and well-wishers we have managed to raise foodstuffs and gifts worth more than Sh1 million which will be channelled to various rescue centres in the county,” he added.
Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Abdirisack Jaldesa on his part assured residents that adequate security will be provided for them during the Christmas season noting that sufficient security measures have been put in place.
He said as the chairman of the security committee, he has deployed enough security personnel who will conduct patrol in all security prone areas.
