A week after meeting Deputy President William Ruto, the Tanga Tanga brigade from Gusii may have after all changed strategy as they intensify campaigns.
In separate occasions, Dr Ruto met Nyamira and Kisii teams at his Karen residence, but details of closed-door meeting remained scanty.
However, on Sunday at Magombo, the team, which was synonymous with launching attacks against Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i, seemed to deviate from the past.
A youth close to Tanga Tanga brigade says Dr Ruto is not interested in fights with Matiang'i, adding that the team will now focus on service delivery.
"We were wrong by engaging his team. He's not our competitor. We know the person we are going to compete with and that's why the change of strategy was necessary.
"He (Matiang'i) is not a presidential candidate. It will be wrong for us to target him. He can continue to bring leaders together but by 2022, we shall only have two camps and they are already known," he said.
The team had been losing steam lately and it suffered a blow recently when Dr Matiang'i blasted Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot at a burial in Nyamira.
At Magombo, while Woman Representative Jerusha Momanyi introduced unity debate, the Ruto brigade did not delve into the issues after all.
"And my brothers, I want to ask all of you that as Abagusii, let's first come together then negotiate with others. This will make it easier for us," she had said.
But team leader Joash Nyamoko said Tanga Tanga is interested in serving people before shifting focus into county politics.
