Ndaragua Member of Parliament Jeremiah Kioni has expressed his doubts on whether the extension of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report was necessary.
This comes as week after President Uhuru Kenyatta extended the term of the 14-member team, to spearhead the public participation of the BBI report compiled by it.
But the lawmaker now suggests that the move might have bit been unnecessary, proposing that the country should have been by now looking at how to implement the BBI report proposals.
"I am not sure that the decision to extend the mandate of the BBI taskforce was a good one. I was hoping by now that we would be talking about implementation," he said.
He spoke on Citizen TV's Newsnight on Tuesday. The lawmaker stated that as things stand now, the persons leading the amendments push seem hesitant for the implementation.
He lauded the report as a good list of proposals which Kenyans need to support and decide on how to implement rather than being hesitant.
"The BBI is a good initiative that we need to support. However, we should not be seen to be hesitant. My fear is that we have not decided how to implement the report," he added.
This comes at a time when majority of the political players, including its former critics, have thrown their weight behind the report.
Its proposals include introduction of a prime ministerial slot, whose holder will be appointed by the president and will be in charge of government business in the national assembly.
