The move by the betting company came shortly after it announced its exit from Kenya. Citizen TV reported that the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the embattled betting firm broke the news to the company's staff during a meeting on Wednesday.

Using the hashtags #SaveMyJob and #ILostMyJob, the netizens expressed their varied opinions over the company's move.

A section of those who supported the move claimed the betting and gambling had promoted a lot of vices among the youths.

Others claimed the company was making a lot of money from Kenyans yet it was contributing less towards tax payment and sponsoring local talents.

They, therefore, supported the move claiming the negative effects that were brought by gambling outweighed the decision to lay off the employees.

A group of the netizens nonetheless protested against the decision citing that the move increased the number of unemployed youths in the country.

They argued that the government should prioritize the creation of employment opportunities. Some took the chance to criticize the government for not fulfilling its promise to provide employment to youths in the country.

The netizens also pointed out that there were more pressing matters such as drug abuse that needed attention.
