Emerging details indicate that Mombasa lawyer who committed suicide on Wednesday morning was reacting to the loss of property worth millions of shillings.
Lawyer Sammy Anyanzwa dropped from the eighth floor of the Uhuru Na Kazi building in Mombasa, which houses the government lands offices.
Details now indicate that the 69-year-old had lost land worth Sh140 million located in Mtwapa in Kilifi County, following the realization that the land had been grabbed by a relative.
It is said that before the 10 AM incident, he had managed to find a customer who was to buy the property at Sh200 million, only to realize that some land papers were missing from files.
Mombasa Urban OCPD Eliud Monari said that though preliminary investigations show that he committed suicide, they are checking if he could have been pushed down.
“We are looking at different angles as we seek to unravel the mystery behind his death even though preliminary investigations pointed to suicide,” said the police boss.
His lawyer friends said that he was battling cases of customers dwindling him, and wanted the police to cease rushing into the conclusion that he committed suicide.
His family members have announced that a post-mortem will be done on his body this morning.
