Nyeri Town Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu now proposes that the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) be decided upon by all Kenyans.
The BBI report was launched on Wednesday by President Uhuru Kenyatta at the Bomas of Kenya.
Ngunjiri, a Jubilee Party allied MP urged everyone to read the content of the report which was initiated by President Uhuru and ODM party leader Raila Odinga following disputed 2017 presidential elections.
''The #BBIPeoplesReport has a lot of issues to do with all 47 Million of us Kenyans. Please read it. Once you have read, discussed and understood it, demand to be part of the process of deciding what stays and what goes; directly,'' see part of Ngunjiri's post.
However, he noted that the report 'can't be entrusted' to MPs who initially opposed the initiative.
''This 12th Parliament hasn’t raised 2/3 since we got in. We will not start with a document that some fought with everything they have,'' added Ngunjiri.
Ngunjiri's sentiments to have Kenyans decide the fate of BBI directly, akin to referendum, comes an opposing tide by a section of legislators.
Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Boss Shollei noted that the report can be implemented without a referundum.
"As I support the implementation of the BBI proposals, I wish to state that all the recommendations in the BBI report do not require a referendum."
"They are capable of being implemented by ministries, state institutions, independent constitutional commissions and Parliament. For example, inclusivity can be achieved byreminding the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights and Equality Commission of their constitutional mandate to implementChapter 4 of our Constitution," she said,Thursday.
