The Harambee Starlets of Kenya have been nominated by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the Women's Team of the Year category.
The announcement was made on Sunday by CAF on its social media platforms
Starlet's nomination comes in the wake of a string of impeccable performances on the continental and regional stage.
Harambee Starlets mounted an excellent campaign in the 2020 Tokyo, Japan Olympics qualifiers, reaching the second last stage.
They were bundled out of the Olympics qualifiers by the Copper Queens of Zambia after suffering a 1-0 defeat in Lusaka.
At the CECAFA Women's Challenge being staged in Tanzania, the Starlets stormed into the finals on Saturday after beating Burundi 5-0.
They are set to battle it out with Tanzania on Monday in the CECAFA finals after winning all their games at the regional tournament.
Kenya will battle it out for the prize with other countries that made it to the nomination list.
Other nominees in the category are; South Africa, Zambia, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, and Nigeria.
Compared to the men's team, the national women's team has done extremely well but continues to struggle in terms of resources and attention.
It is hoped that the CAF recognition will help raise the profile of women's football in Kenya.
