Philip Birech and Naomi Chebet are the winners of the 2019 Kass International Marathon held in Eldoret on Sunday.
Birech who trains in Nandi Hills, Nandi County won the 42 Kilometers race after clocking 2:21:07.
Amos Kipkemboi and Patrick Keter finished second and third after clocking 2:22.32 and 2:24.26 respectively.
“The race was very competitive since most of the athletes come from the North Rift and South Rift. This race has one of the toughest courses I thank God that I managed to become the winner. My aim is to be like Eliud Kipchoge,” Birech said.
In the women's race, Chebet who trains at Kapcherop in Elgeyo Marakwet County, finished first after clocking 2:46.60.
“I want to thank God for winning this race since the course was very hard, and being the first time to participate in the 42 kilometers it wasn’t easy. I will participate in other races as my manager will recommend,” Chebet added.
Chebet said her aim is to participate in international marathons and break world records.
Kass marathon is one of the most followed athletic events in the country as it brings together elite athletes from across the country, and the continent.
