Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi has mourned the demise of HIV/Aids researcher and consultant psychiatrist Dr Sobbie Mulindi who died of cancer on Tuesday.
Dr Mulindi had been ailing since 2017 but despite efforts to fight the disease he succumbed to it on Tuesday, three years after waging a battle.
While mourning the University of Nairobi senior lecturer in the psychiatry department and former Deputy Director of the National Aids Control Council (2008-2014), Mudavadi stated that the lose to the nation is huge.
Dr Sobbie will be remembered for his enormous contribution in the AIDS circles.
"I have lost a brother, friend and confidant. The nation has lost an unrivalled public-spirited academic and intellectual," Mudavadi said as quoted by Nation.
"Tessie and I send our sincere condolences to the family, friends and relatives of Dr Sobby Mulindi, Chairman, Nairobi Hospice. Indeed he put life into the days of the hospice fraternity and not just days into their lives," he tweeted.
The death adds to alarming numbers of high profile Kenyans who have succumbed to the killer disease.
Kibra MP Ken Okoth is among leaders in the 12th parliament to die of cancer. Francis Nyenze, a Kitui West MP, Minority leader in the 11th Parliament and KANU-era Cabinet Minister also died of cancer.
Another Member of Parliament that was fallen by cancer is Baringo South MP Grace Kipchoim.
Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso and Safaricom Chief Executive Officer Bob Collymore are other influncial people killed by cancer recently.
