Waiguru trashed reports that the populous region was staring at leadership crisis, saying Uhuru was still Central Kenya's political kingpin, therefore, there was no leadership gap.

In a tweet on Wednesday, the county boss spoke highly of the President, saying he has the best interests of Central Kenya residents at heart and would not let the region be locked out of country's leadership after the 2022 elections.

"There is no gap in Central Kenya leadership, and I urge all Mt. Kenya leaders to rally behind the handshake and H.E. Pres. Kenyatta, who is this region's kingpin. He supports women empowerment and best represents our interests in leadership and shall ensure our place at the top is secure," Waiguru posted.

Lately, the former Devolution Cabinet Secretary has emerged as the most vocal leader from the Kikuyu community in support of the handshake and has not shied away from endorsing Uhuru's newfound partner, Raila, for the presidency in the next polls.

Waiguru, whose remarks have sparked a heated political debate in Central Kenya, has told off her critics, insisting her voice was that of the President.

"Those telling me not to speak should know that I am talking about President Kenyatta, who they neither support nor speak about. They invite outsiders and tell us to support them in 2022. Who has sent them to select a leader for us?" she posed last week.
