Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai has said that detectives are still pursuing the kidnappers of two Cuban doctors.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, Mutyambai said that police officers are trailing all the links in a bid to rescue the doctors after they were kidnapped four months ago.
The doctors, Landy Rodriguez, a surgeon and Assel Herera Corea, a general practitioner were taken hostage by suspected Al-Shabaab militia after they stormed Mandera County.
The abductors reportedly demanded Sh150million ransom before they release the doctors. The information was acquired after some elders from the Somali community visited one of the villages in Jubaland, Somalia where the doctors are believed to be held.
Mr Mutyambai admitted that they are facing endless challenges in their mission to rescue the doctors but assured Kenyans that an effort is being made to find the kidnappers.
“Our work as police ends at the border. I am not in a good position to account for the fate of Cuban doctors but we have a team working on it,” he said, as quoted by the Nation.
He also asked Kenyans to be patient as police officers dig deeper into the evidence that could lead them to the place where the doctors are reportedly being held hostage by the suspected terror group.
