A suspected robber was on Monday shot and killed by police officers in Naivasha following a botched robbery.
The suspect was part of a gang that is believed to have attacked a cleric as he was entering his house at around 11 pm in Karati village along the Naivasha-Kirima road.
Naivasha OCPD Samuel Waweru who confirmed the incident said the suspects wanted to rob the cleric when family members raised an alarm.
Waweru said members of the public responded quickly and informed the police at nearby Karati police post who arrived at the scene while the suspects were trying to escape.
The OCPD said the armed suspects shot the cleric twice in the stomach and thigh and a bodaboda operator on the thigh as they attempted to escape using motorcycles.
“One of the motorcycles crushed while fleeing and police managed to shoot dead one of the thugs while the others escaped with gunshot wounds,” Waweru said, as quoted by Standard.
The cleric and the bodaboda operator were rushed to Naivasha Sub-County hospital for treatment.
The OCPD said they recovered a pistol from the suspect who was shot dead adding that investigations have been launched as they suspect the gang is behind robbery incidents in the area.
“The gunned down suspect has been identified as a motorcycle operator and we are closing down on his accomplices,” notd the police boss.
