Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo has said that it doesn’t make sense for Kenyans living in urban areas to travel upcountry for the census drive.
In an interview on NTV Tuesday, Otiende said that every Kenyan should remain where he or she currently resides to ensure that the data captured is accurate. The lawmaker said that accurate data will make it possible for the government to plan for the population.
“We should make sure that the census is accurate and accountable. It is illogical to go be counted upcountry then come back to the place you live most of the time,” he said.
Otiende said that the resources will be directed towards the areas with a high population adding that travelling upcountry is illogical and a waste of time.
“Resources will go where you are counted, you should be counted where you stay. Let us be realistic because this is what will help us in planning,” he said.
The government has promised to give enumerators and other officials tight security during and after the exercise.
Unlike in the past, the current census will be conducted using electronic gadgets as the government seeks to get accurate results upon the completion of the exercise.
