President Uhuru Kenyatta on Saturday hit out at former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri over his performance.
Speaking after the commissioning of the New KCC cooling plant in Kangeta, Igembe Central, President Kenyatta said that Kiunjuri was not performing well in the agriculture docket before he resorted to firing him.
The head of state cited the issue of locust invasion, saying that Former Trade CS Peter Munya has already proven that he is a performer after asking Kenyans not to take pictures of locusts but instead went to the ground and started spraying the insects.
The President noted that he is already impressed with Munya’s swiftness, adding that these are the leaders he wants in his government. The President also said that he does not want government officials to engage in sideshows when they are expected to serve the electorate.
“Within one day a CS I do not wish to name when he was changed, work started being done and not taking of pictures. That is what we want from leaders if you are given a mandate, deliver on it,” President Kenyatta said.
Munya had fired shots at President Kenyatta, saying that he cannot give the leaders from the region orders on who they should endorse or vote for when it comes to the 2022 succession debate. The former CS promised to stand with Deputy President William Ruto to the end after he was shown the door.
