Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino was on Tuesday granted freedom after paying Sh2.5 million cash bail.
The said amount is part of the Sh10 million cash bail the court granted the lawmaker after he was arrested and charged in relation to the shooting saga at B-club.
Babu Owino, who is accused of shooting Felix Orinda popularly known as DJ Evolve, denied the charges levelled against him before he was given bail.
Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi allowed the lawmaker to pay the Sh10 million cash bail in four instalments.
The total amount is expected to be paid within the next four months pending hearing and determination of the case.
In his ruling, Andayi said that part of the bail will be used to settle the bill for the victim and the rest will account for the bail.
The magistrate had also barred the lawmaker from using alcohol or any narcotic products in the public during the period of bail.
DJ Evolve’s family wanted the lawmaker denied bail because he can threaten him once he is out of police cell.
“Their plea to the court is that if the same is granted, other protective measures should be instituted to ensure the security of the victim, family and also to safeguard against witness interference,” the family said, as quoted by Citizen Digital.
Babu Owino has since insisted that he is innocent over the shooting saga.
He has attributed his woes to his hardline stance in politics.
Earlier, he had vowed to give his side of the story once he is freed.
