A woman and her husband were on Thursday charged by a Mombasa court for giving false information to the authorities.
Saida Abdulahman Baraka, 20, and her husband Mohamed Abdulahman were accused of allegedly lying that Baraka was abducted while expecting a baby, a crime they committed at Coast Provincial General Hospital and Makupa Police Station.
The court heard that the accused lied that she had suffered a miscarriage following her abduction on September 20, 2018.
The police said the suspect had claimed she was kidnapped while heading to board a Malindi-bound bus at Buxton, Mombasa then drugged by the kidnappers who performed the abortion on her.
However, during the case hearing on Thursday, Dr Nafsa Mohamed told the court that medical results showed that Baraka was not expectant during her alleged kidnapping ordeal.
Dr Mohamed said they had collected urine and did an ultrasound on the accused twice which showed that she was not pregnant at that time.
“From the above finding, a conclusion was drawn that the suspect was not pregnant and has not been pregnant. There has been no delivery. There are no signs of physical abuse and injury on the patient,” said Dr Mohamed as quoted by Nation.
Abdulahman is now facing charges of lying to the authorities that his expectant wife had been abducted by unknown people.
The couple denied the charges and were released on a Sh100,000 bond each.
The case will be heard on March 18, 2020.
