The National government has set aside Sh250 million to help orphans, disabled and the elderly who are over 70 years old in Uasin Gishu County through the Cash Transfer Program.
According to Deputy President William Ruto, the funds will help the vulnerable groups in society to improve on their livelihoods and also live a decent life.
"12,000 people living with disabilities, orphans and the elderly in Uasin Gishu will benefit from the Sh250 million cash transfer funds. The amount will be channelled into their respective accounts," Ruto said after he officially opened the Living Room International hospital in Kipkorgot, Ainabkoi Constituency, Tuesday.
"I am directing the Provincial Administration officers on the ground to ensure that all orphans, disabled, and the elderly aged 70 years are registered in the program and no one should be left out," he added.
Ruto further said that apart from giving them monthly cash, the government will also put them under the NHIF medical cover in a move to ensure they get quality health care.
He also revealed that Sh1 billion has been set aside to connect 2,500 households with electricity in the county as part of the Jubilee government's initiative to ensure every Kenyan is connected to the national grid.
