Security in Mombasa has been beefed up ahead of Mashujaa Day celebrations on Sunday.
President Uhuru Kenyatta will preside over the National day celebrations at the Mama Ngina Water Front.
Hundreds of Kenyans are expected to attend and as such security is extremely crucial.
Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho confirmed that all security measures had been put in to ensure safety of those who will attend the event.
“I can confirm that everything at the Mama Ngina Waterfront Park is ready for Mashujaa Day celebrations. Since we expect a high turnout, we have created a space big enough to accommodate all Kenyans who are planning to join us in marking this momentous day,” Kibicho stated as quoted by Capital FM.
Coast Regional Commissioner John Elungata pleaded with Kenyans to work together with security officers whenever required.
“The public is advised to be vigilant and report to the police any suspicious-looking individuals, incidences/activities or abandoned luggage,” Elungata noted.
Mashujaa Day is set aside to celebrate Kenya's heroes and this years theme is ‘Nchi Yangu, Jukumu Langu, Mimi ni Shujaa’ (My Nation, My duty, I am a hero).
Various national heroes including Eliud Kipchoge who went into historic books for being the first man to run a full marathon in less than two hours have been invited to attend the celebrations.
