The leader says that Musyoka remains in charge in the Lower Eastern region, where he controls a huge following and his actually now shifting his focus to the national arena.

She told The Star that the former Vice President has his eyes on the presidency, hence his close working relationship with President Uhuru Kenyatta, who runs the Mt Kenya block.

According to Mbalu, Kalonzo has embarked on talks with national leaders who could be of help to the realization of his 2022 presidential bid, among them the Head of State.

"We need numbers. People should not mistake statements by others to mean Kalonzo is fighting the President yet he wants to reach his (Uhuru) people 100 per cent,” she said, Saturday.

She also hinted that the leader, who has in the last two consecutive elections been a running mate to ODM leader Raila Odinga is in talks with ANC's Musalia Mudavadi.

Wiper Secretary General Judith Sijeny bashed those opposed to Kalonzo's union with Uhuru, especially former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama, terming them 'noisemakers'.

According to her, it's clear that the party has since agreed to work with with the president, wondering why Muthama is suddenly uncomfortable with the same.

“When the party top organs sat down and agreed that we should work with Uhuru all of them were present. Even Muthama attended the meetings,” she said.

This comes amid rife talks that Kalonzo, who only recently promised to stick to Uhuru even after 2022, is in alliance talks with Deputy President William Ruto.

However, he has rubbished those allegations as the making of people out to create a rift between him and the president.
