The family of Bishop Charles Oduor Awich of Roho Judea Church, Siaya County is now appealing to anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact the police a week after he went missing.
Confirming the pastor's disappearance, Siaya County Police Commander Francis Kooli said that the matter has already been reported to the station, adding that investigations have kicked off.
The bishop disappeared on January 11, 2020, and the family fears that he could be dead by now.
Police reports indicate that two unknown men picked the man from his Ndere home in Alego-Usonga sub-county. The men reportedly said that the clergyman was being taken to the Alego Ndere police post to be interrogated but he never returned home.
The police have also said that the bishop never reached the station as alleged. The wife of the pastor, Hellen Adhiambo, said that she suspects the man was murdered because of the land tussle pending hearing and determination.
“We suspect he could have been kidnapped because of the ongoing land case which is still pending before a court in Siaya,” she said.
Fellowship of Churches Organization has called for a speedy probe into the matter. Led by Francis Odhiambo (Chairman), the leaders want the police to come to the bottom of the matter with immediate effect before the worst happens.
Odhiambo, Abraham Ododa (Jerusalem Assembly church), Ronald Mala (Roho Judea Church) addressed the media on Sunday where they called for speedy investigations.
