According to Eldoret West Deputy OCPD Hussein Gura, the 60 were arrested at Club Spree that is located within the Eldoret town Central Business District (CBD) during a police crackdown.

It is believed the students were headed back to school for the second term when they decided to pass by the said club.

Addressing the press in Eldoret town on Monday, Gura said the arrested were 50 underages and 10 who had National Identity (ID) cards.

“The underage students have been charged in a children’s court for being drunk and disorderly while the 10 with IDs were taken to the normal court to face similar charges,” said the Deputy OCPD.

Police also arrested the manager of the club who is facing two charges, allowing access of children under age of  18 years to the place where alcohol is sold and operating an alcohol-selling business without a license.

This is not the first time underage students have been arrested for being found drinking alcohol in Eldoret as in 2016, over 200 students were also arrested for the similar offense in a club opposite the central police station.
