National Cereals and Produce Board Managing Director Newton Terer has urged Kenyans to always go for eye check ups, at least once a year.
He said this will help prevent and treat eye treated illnesses if discovered early.
"It's sad that majority of Kenyans don't go for eye check up but only do so when the situation is worse. Blindness can be treated if discovered at early stages," he said.
Speaking on Sunday during an eye check up exercises in conjunction with Lion's sightfirst Eye on Hospital, Terer said they decided to conduct the exercise as a corporate social responsibility, since they discovered that farmers aged 60 years are badly affected by eye complication.
"We have examined and treated 600 people with eye related problems and for those who will need operation will be done free of charge," he added.
He said they will ensure that the exercise is conducted annually to reach more people.
"We are planning to make the eye check up an annual event, we want farmers to be free from eye problems complications," he reiterated.
