Former Chair of the now-defunct The National Alliance (TNA) party in Nakuru county Abdul Noor has predicted a referendum before the end of next year.
Noor says that the nation could be sent back to the polls before mid 2020, as calls for constitutional changes continue gaining momentum in the country.
Speaking on Saturday, the former Flamingo Ward Representative in Nakuru county, however, called for sobriety among Kenyans should a referendum be thrown their way.
He said that the ongoing push for the expansion of the executive arm of the government is coming, which has been endorsed by President Uhuru Kenyatta and ex- Premier Raila Odinga.
However, he stressed on the need for Kenyans to only pick sides after reading and understanding the proposals, and not back anything on grounds that it enjoys the backing of the two.
"Hii katiba watu wanaenda kubadilisha mwezi wa tano mwaka ujao, kama haya ndio mambo yatasemwa, watu wasiseme eti kama Raila ama Uhuru amesema ni sawa.
(In this constitutional amendments people are going to make in May next year, if these are what will be said, let people not say its okay because Raila or Uhuru have said so)," he said.
He made the remarks on Radio Sauti Ya Mwananchi's Cheche show on Saturday evening, where he said that he is personally against any move to create more positions.
He insisted on the need for reduction of positions, at a time when there is another referendum push of that manner under Third Way Alliance leader Ekuru Aukot.
"Kama mabadiliko ni ya kuongeza viti hiyo itaumiza wananchi (if the changes are about increasing positions then that will harm Kenyans)," he added.
Noor also warned Kenyans against selling their support for money through being bribed.
