Ijara Member of Parliament Sophia Abdi Noor had the opportunity on Tuesday to inspect the destruction unleashed on telecommunication masts in Hulugho.
In a Facebook post after the inspection, the legislator said that the targeting of the masts by Al-Shabaab was a strategy of the terrorist group to control the flow of information and limit external interactions.
She made a promise to the locals that she would see to it that the masts were erected again in order to restore communication in Garissa.
"Terror groups and their activities impacts communities and the nation negatively, frontline communities bear the great effect of these terror activities, in my meet the people tour to mobilize for the upcoming census, I had the opportunity to inspect the destruction of a communication mast by Alshabaab in Hulugho subcounty. Destruction of communication facilities by terror organisations is a strategy to control information flow and limit external interactions. As the political leadership of the area we shall work with other actors to make sure phone communication is restored, " Abdi Noor's Facebook post read.
Other than targeting people, the Al-Shabaab is resorting to blasting communication masts in its campaign of terror in Garissa and neighbouring counties.
The Kenyan military is involved in an ongoing campaign alongside AMISOM forces against the terrorist group in Somalia.
