Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i on Friday applauded Nyamira and Kisii residents for taking the ongoing census exercise serious.
Matiang'i while speaking at the burial of ex-Nyaribari Masaba MP Hezron Manduku expressed his happiness saying Nyamira and Kisii residents have maintained peace since the exercise started on Saturday, 24th August 2019.
"I want to tell the truth to the people of Nyamira and Kisii, I am very proud because the residents have taken the ongoing census exercise with the seriousness it deserves. I urge those who are yet to be counted to ensure they are counted before the 31st August 2019 deadlines elapses," he said.
He also lauded police officers, local chiefs clan elders and Nyumba Kumi officials for ensuring that the enumerators are conducting the exercise in a secured environment.
The Cabinet Secretary said despite the minor challenges experienced across the country, the census exercise has been peaceful.
He ruled out that the deadline for the exercise may not be extended as many Kenyans may be thinking.
"Between today, Friday and tomorrow, Saturday 31st August 2019, let those who are yet to be counted ensure they are counted by remaining in their houses so that enumerators can find them," he added.
