Governor Laboso succumbed to cancer, which she was first detected with in 1991 while working at Egerton University as a lecturer

After her victory in 2017, Governor Laboso introduced radical changes in her administration, a sharp difference between her and the predecessor, Isaac Ruto.

One of changes that caught her staff off guard is when she refused to have official seat of the governor being moved around the county whenever she attends functions.

Instead, the former Sotik MP urged her staff to focus on service delivery. She insisted that some of the initial protocol was unnecessary for the county.

"I will not want to see a special seat carried around for me, I do not have time for luxury but I want to spend my energy serving the locals. Staff should know that their energy should also be channelled to service delivery and not trying to please," she said.

Also, Governor Laboso also rejected the use of the title 'Her Excellency', arguing that it was simple to call her Madam Governor.

"There is no need to struggle with a name that does not add value to the need of the people. So people should just call me madam Governor," she added.

She was first elected in 2008 following the death of her sister Lorna Laboso, who had been elected to serve as first female MP in Sotik.
