Keroka OCPD Walter Apondo said the suspect, Daniel Nyagaka who was under the influence of alcohol attacked the assistant chief on Wednesday at Kegogi village in Miriri Masaba North in Nyamira County.

"The suspect is in lawful custody after he was successfully apprehended by mourners at the funeral and surrendered to police. He disrupted the funeral after he walked straight to the podium where the administrator was addressing the mourners and clobbered him," said Apondo.

The OCPD said mourners intervened to rescue the chief from the jaws of death saying it is not clear why the man decided to attack the chief in public.

He assured that the suspect will be charged in court to serve as an example to members of the public fond of attacking local government representatives.

"We can not condone people to continue harming government officers. The suspect will face the full force of the law to serve as an example to the rest," he added.
