Top Mugithi maestros Samidoh and Joyce Wa Mamaa will not attend the burial of legendary musician John De’Mathew slated for Saturday in Gatanga, Murang'a County.
The duo will miss the funeral since they are currently in the United Kingdom and they are expected to perform in a much-publicised 'Mugithi Night' on Saturday, the same day De'Mathew will be laid to rest.
Samidoh said they will dedicate their show, which will be held at Maasai Choma House along Ferndale Road, to the musician who died in a tragic road accident near Thika Town on Sunday night.
"It is unfortunate we shall not be available to attend the burial of the Legend John De'Mathew scheduled for this Saturday. We hereby dedicate our last show in the UK in his remembrance," he tweeted on Thursday.
Samidoh, famed for his collabo with Wa Mamaa 'Wendo Wi Cama', eulogised De'Mathew as an inspiring artist who left a huge impact in the vernacular music industry.
"De'Mathew has impacted and inspired many artists with his classic hits that inspire even today. When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure. We shall all miss his voice and sight but never from our hearts as we listen to his inspiring music," he added.
Popular Gikuyu radio stations Inooro FM and Kameme FM have organised two separate music shows to remember and honour the fallen artist, who produced over 50 albums in his career spanning over 30 years.
