Kiunju wanted to invite Nyeri County Woman Representative to address the function but area Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu and his supporters would hear none of it.
He was forced to leave the podium having failed to pacify the hostile crowd.
The CS was in Nyeri to launch the Ria Mukurwe Irrigation Scheme according to a story by KTN.
MP Ngunjiri Wambugu, a member of the so-called Kieleweke team, arrived at the function with hordes of his supporters causing the person who was speaking at the podium to cut short his speech.
KTN reported that a number of Members of County Assembly (MCAs) were attacked forced to leave the function in a huff.
The irrigation project will cost about Sh261 million.
There was a heavy police presence in the area aimed at ensuring that there was security given the tense atmosphere.
When he spoke, Wambugu said that there was a plot to use the launch of the project to advance political propaganda.
