The decision was arrived at due to poor weather in the capital Nairobi with the condition being foggy for most hours and misty, making it risky.

Sources said that the management took the decision to avert possible tragedies, with Mombasa International Airport taken as emergency landing for oncoming planes.

“We have landed in Mombasa. Told there’s heavy fog over JKIA so we couldn’t land. We are told to wait for 30 minutes here for the fog to clear and then resume our trip,” tweeted Nelson Osiemo, who was in the flight.

The foggy conditions could further make the national career incur more losses following a week of huge downfall in terms of profits.

Kenya Airways reportedly made Sh8 billion loss in the past few months, with operation costs standing at over Sh61 billion, a move that could out management in trouble.

“In turning around Kenya Airways, a deliberate decision was taken not to shrink the airline but instead improve financial performance through strategic investments on growth opportunities,” said board chairman Michael Joseph after announcing the results in Nairobi last week.

“Some of these investments may deny KQ and its shareholders an immediate return but are expected to yield positive results in the future.”
