ODM leader Raila Odinga has questioned the taskforce behind the probe into the loss of at least Sh21 billion meant for Arror and Kimwarer dams in a tour of Deputy President William Ruto's North Rift backyard on Sunday.
Speaking at Chebara Primary School during a thanksgiving ceremony following the retirement of Ruth Kiptoo, mother-in-law of Cherangany MP Joshua Kutuny, Raila questioned why the persons linked to the loss of the public funds meant for the project are still walking free when the taxpayers await answers.
Raila rubbished Deputy President William Ruto’s claims that the government only lost Sh7 billion for the projects in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
He noted that the idea of constructing the dams was an idea hatched by the Grand Coalition government which he served in.
“It has now been allocated Sh63 billion and Sh21 billion has been lost yet no work has been done,” he said, as quoted by Daily Nation.
Raila also said that the handshake has transformed the lives of millions of Kenyans, and urged leaders from different political divides to back President Kenyatta as he seeks to leave behind a legacy upon completing his second and final term in power.
He further stated that he decided to work with President Uhuru for the sake of peace and development.
Raila was accompanied by Senate Minority Leader James Orengo, MPs Junet Mohammad (Suna East), Fatuma Gedi (Wajia), Chris Omulele (Luanda) Paul Abuor (Rongo), Caleb Amisi (Saboti) and Millie Odhiambo (Suba North).
Others were Mishi Mbogo (Likoni Woman Representative), Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay Woman Representative), and Wilson Sossion (nominated).
