Nyeri Town Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu has said that Deputy President William Ruto was not part of President Uhuru Kenyatta's inner circle during both the 2013 and 2017 Presidential campaigns.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Wambugu said that it seems the second in command was not aware that the Jubilee team hired a consultancy firm to help it win the election. He noted that it is clear that Ruto was not among the people Uhuru could entrust his fate with as he sought to win as well as retain the seat for the Presidency.
"Apparently our Jubilee Party Deputy Party Leader William Ruto didn’t know there was a political consultancy company hired & working with Jubilee in 2013, & 2017. One wonders what else he didn’t know ... or doesn’t know now, " he said.
Wambugu also claimed that Ruto cannot explain how the party won the elections on both accounts. The lawmaker claimed that he was only used as a 'Mtu Wa Mkono' in both contests but he remains in the dark on how things unfolded to the end in the favour of President Kenyatta.
"It also means that he also doesn’t actually know how Jubilee won the 2013 & 2017 elections. (Which explains why his campaign is struggling 3 years to an election)This would also suggest that he wasn’t trusted enough to be involved in strategy; and that he literally was a ‘mtu wa mkono’ in that campaign, he said.
Wambugu further said that Ruto was merely used to speak in rallies without knowing how they were going to ensure they emerged victorious at the end of the campaign period.
"His work was to be sent out into rallies to speak, without actually knowing how these rallies had been planned; and to be given a message to say, with no idea how it was developed," he added.
