Deputy President William Ruto has hinted at a possible support of Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) despite being masterminded by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his potential 2022 competitor, opposition leader, Raila Odinga.
Responding to an article published in the Saturday Nation titled, 'Ruto's big BBI dilemma', the Deputy President said he was ready to support the initiative fronted by his party leader.
"DILEMMA? No way!Jubilee as a democratic party celebrates diversity of opinion free of hate and focused on transformation for all; for us big or small matters BUT ultimately as initiators of inclusive non-tribal political discourse we will stand behind our Party & Leader," Ruto tweeted.
His response seems to contradict what politicians allied to him believe in. Speaking in his presence on Friday in Mumias East at Lubinu during the launch of Wanga Technical and Vocational Institute, several leaders vowed to make sure BBI collapses.
Some of those who openly opposed BBI are former Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale, Enock Kibunguchi and Sirisia MP John Waluke. They claim the initiative is aimed at politically benefiting individuals.
“There was no public participation on BBI, which has no interest of the common mwananchi at the grassroots level,” Waluke said as quoted by Standard.
However, Dr Ruto kept off the BBI discussion during his Western tour on Friday.
