Uhuru on Thursday extended the tenure of the 14-member team, which has since recommended amendment to the constitution in the name of the BBI taskforce report.

But Kisiang'ani now says that the taskforce should reject the term extension, saying that its members lack the confidence the political divide should have in them as things are now.

"I urge the BBI taskforce members to decline the President's offer to extend their mandate beyond the post Bomas dispensation. Under the current circumstances, they are not neutral enough to command public confidence across the political divide. They should do some soul-searching," he said in a tweet on Thursday night.

Despite enjoying the backing of Uhuru and ODM boss Raila Odinga and their allies, the BBI taskforce has not been fully embraced by forces allied to Deputy President William Ruto.

Uhuru has entrusted the team with the role of spearheading the BBI report public participation set to begin in January, before the implementation of its suggestions.

Its suggestions include the formation of an independent health commission and additional funds for the devolved units as well as creation of the Prime Minister post.
