Veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga has launched a scathing attack on what he described as capitalism without ethics.
Speaking in Ngong Race Course during a memorial for pupils who perished when a building at Precious Talents Top School collapsed, the former Prime Minister fired shot after shot at capitalists who were putting profit over life.
He blamed the tragedy that left 8 pupils dead on capitalism that is not driven by ethics but by profit.
"Those who want to make a quick profit, we are telling them that we are against capitalism without ethics, we want capitalism that is driven by humanity. (Kwa wenye wanataka kupata faida kwa njia ya haraka, tunasema hatutaki ubepari wa kinyama. Tunataka ubepari ya kiutu), " the ODM supremo told mourners in a video shared on Twitter by Citizen TV. Raila called on those in the construction industry not to go for shortcuts but to, instead, ensure that they follow to the letter the rule governing the industry.
Sleuths from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are conducting a probe into the deadly collapse with the view of bringing criminal charges against those who oversaw the construction of the building.
Raila donated 1 million shillings as President Uhuru donated Sh2 million to go towards helping families of the victims and construction of the school.
