Speaking outside a Nairobi court where Itumbi was arraigned, the outspoken legislator decried what he described as the weaponisation of public institutions.

He claimed that Itumbi's arrest had something to do with succession politics in the country.

"But I think what is of concern to us is the weaponisation of all public institutions in this country in the succession politics of our country," stated the Kikuyu Mp.

He added: "What is on trial here today is not Dennis Itumbi. What is on trial today has got nothing to do with letters. What is on trial today is succession politics in the Republic of Kenya."

Ichung'wa claimed that there was a section of public officials keen on persecuting politicians seen to be associating with Deputy President Dr William Ruto.

He maintained that those supporting DP Ruto would not be cowed by the arrests and would continue to rally behind him without apology.

His strong words come amid rising political temperatures over an alleged plot to assassinate the DP.

Itumbi was reportedly arrested over links to an alleged fake letter that carried claims of the assassination plot.

Investigations into the assassination plot are ongoing.
