Speaking during an interview with NTV on Tuesday,  Khalwale said that there is the need for a national conversation following the recent deaths in West Pokot.

The politician argued that most of the regions in the nation have unplanned settlements, adding that they are not habitable.

"The national conversation should be on the land tenure policy. In many parts of this county, we have an unplanned settlement, people who live in dangerous places should be settled in places where the government can put amenities," he said.

He has now asked the government to resettle persons from this area in safer places to avoid such scenes in the future.

Khalwale, who has thrown weight behind Deputy President William Ruto, said that the current government needs to go the extra mile.

The death toll in the West Pokot disaster has risen to 52. The bodies of six more victims were recovered on Monday.

West Pokot Governor John Lonyapou has called upon leaders from different parts to support the residents affected by the landslide.

DP Ruto visited the victims of the disaster on Monday and assured them of his support.
