Thirdway Alliance party's push for a referendum is almost hitting a snag after several county assemblies rejected its proposals.
The party leader Dr Ekuru Aukot has, however, put on a brave face even as things seem not to favour him.
The party has attributed its poor performance to lack of support from mainstream parties including Jubilee and ODM.
The political camp has also struggled to overcome poor funding, radical proposals on representation and alleged corruption.
It is reported that some state operatives who had promised to fund the proposals made an about-turn along the way leaving everything in limbo.
On Sunday, Aukot affirmed that all is well even when the political mood seems different on the ground. He said that big political parties and the Council of Governors have now copied their ideas.
He also said that those lying to the nation that the proposals have failed are in for a rude shock.
“By lying to a whole nation that the Punguza Mizigo Bill has failed, before 40 counties have debated it, the Deputy President has shown his contempt for the ordinary mwananchi that he has failed and lied to in the last six years,” said Dr Aukot.
Nairobi lawyer-cum-political analyst JM Waiganjo said that the proposals lacked appeal for several political quarters which has made it quite daunting for Aukot.
On Sunday, National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale reminded Aukot that the bill was destined to fail and he has no reason to blame anyone.
