According to Uasin Gishu County Director of Education Gitonga Mbaka, the schools are not registered and have poor facilities

“We have so far inspected 19 schools in Uasin Gishu Constituency after which we have decided to close nine schools while 10 were given a second chance to improve on their facilities since they were not that bad,” said Mbaka.

He spoke to the press at Amani High school and Ebenezer Academy schools in Langas which were closed indefinitely on Friday.

“We have given the 10 schools a grace period of three weeks to improve their infrastructure or else face closure,” added Mbaka

He, however, did not mention the other seven schools closed.

He said the closed schools were not registered, didn’t have trained and registered teachers while others had poor infrastructure.

Mbaka further said that the exercise will continue in both primary and secondary schools either public or private until all schools comply with the Education Act that ensures children learn in a conducive environment.

He observed that children who have been affected by the closure of their schools would be transferred to neighbouring schools.
