20 officials from Baringo County government have been asked to appear before the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) over alleged theft of Sh100 million.
According to the Standard, the money was meant for rehabilitation of roads in the 2017/2018 budget.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) South Rift Director Hassan Khalid claimed on Wednesday that only 14 officials had been questioned and recorded their statements after the summon which was issued out on Monday.
Some of the officials who are being investigated include; the County Secretary Francis Komen, Director of Procurement Moses Toroitich, Chief Officer of Roads and Infrastructure Michael Kiptoo and the County Chief Executive Committee member for Roads Elijah Kipkoros.
County Roads Engineer and some of the junior staff from the department of roads, procurement, and accounts will also be probed in the case.
Khalid pointed out that the money had been set aside for a project named 'Imarisha Barabara' which was aimed at renovating roads in 30 wards in the county.
“The officials summoned are accused of illegality in the rapid response initiative of over Sh100 million that was illegally procured and to work done was shoddy,” said Khalid.
The Imarisha Barabara project was introduced by Governor Stanley Kiptis when he took office.
