Davis Ruto, a young politician from Nakuru County has criticised Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino's over his assertion that Raila Odinga must be president in 2022.
Ruto's sentiments came after the vocal ODM MP took to Twitter on Friday and claimed that the referendum which Kenyans should prepare for should award Raila the presidency.
"We must change the constitution and Raila MUST be the PRESIDENT in 2022. Kenyans must prepare for a Referendum to avoid loss of lives and destruction of properties after elections," Babu tweeted.
However, Ruto argues that a referendum should be about solving the problems Kenya is facing and not awarding anyone a presidential seat.
He expressly stated that Kenyan youths will not support a referendum driven by "self-interest".
"As youths, we will not support and we will never condone any constitutional changes to make Raila Odinga President. We want a referendum that will address our problems as youths such as unemployment and improving our lives standards," he wrote on Facebook.
Ruto, 19, has declared his Nakuru senatorial bid in the hope to unseat Susan Kihika in 2022.
The referendum debate continues to draw more momentum with Thirdway Alliance's Punguza Mizigo bill and soon-to-be-released BBI taskforce report.
