Machakos governor Dr Alfred Mutua has reacted to the stand taken by the Catholic Church on the scourge of corruption that continues to plague the country.
In a series of tweets on Sunday, the county boss expressed his support for the church's stand but said that a further step needed to be taken beyond prayers.
The leadership of the Catholic church had announced that it would be committing time to praying against corruption and announced the banning of politicking in the church.
"CATHOLIC PRAYERS ARE GOOD BUT ALONE WILL ACHIEVE LITTLE - ACTION IS A MUST I highly commend the position taken by the Catholic Church in Kenya against corruption. I support the churches’ call for prayers every Sunday against corruption, " the Machakos Governor's tweet read.
The debate on whether the church has a duty to speak out against corruption has been triggered by claims that there are politicians who are donating proceeds of corruption to the houses of prayers.
Veteran opposition and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga and his allies have called on churches to vet politician giving them money in an apparent dig at his political adversary Deputy President Dr William Ruto.
DP Ruto has insisted that he has a duty as a Christian to donate to churches in the country.
