According to Citizen Digital, the accident occurred when a 14-seater matatu driver lost control in the highway and rolled several times.

Nakuru County Police Commander Stephen Matu said that the Sunrise Sacco driver was trying to avoid a head-on collision with a lorry that was coming towards him but he hit the wall and rolled severally on the highway.

People who witnessed the accident revealed that the Matatu driver was using the wrong direction and was coming from Eldoret.

The nine who were injured were rushed to various hospitals in Molo for medical checkups.

For many years, the Sachangwan area has been identified as a dangerous place for public vehicles as many serious accidents have occurred there.

Among the grisly accidents that have occurred was in 2009 when a petroleum tanker overturned severally and busted into flame as people were scrambling for free fuel, claiming over 100 lives.

Also in December 2017, multiple vehicles were involved in head-on collisions killing at least 40 people.
