By Thursday 3, 2019, a toll indicated that 150 people from 57 households had been evacuated from the escarpment area which is prone to the cracks.

The affected people are settled at Nyabworoba secondary and primary schools but the leaders in the region are looking for another option since schools are set to be opened this week.

"They must be given alternative accommodation to allow learning to resume," MCA Paul Angwenyi said.

Reports by legislator Angwenyi indicate that the locals from Nyabworoba, Nyabotenene, and Kitutu Chache North are the ones who have drastically been affected.

County geologist Cleophas Manyara pointed out that sinking of the houses was gradually but all houses in the cliffs will continue to tip over.

"A casual observation shows that the sinking has gradually been going on for weeks and the effects are observable," Manyara told journalists during a tour of the region on Sunday.

Those affected admitted that the crack came along with a roaring sound as they slept. its force is strong as it rips off big rock boulders along its way. It has also created huge deep contours in their farms.

"Our houses began to dance like reeds in the wind before being torn asunder as we watched," a victim said.

A local, Gladys Clement raised concerns that she had a dynamic problem in her homestead since the food crops and trees in her farm sunk. Her house has also started caving in due to the effects of cracks.

"I have no prospect of harvesting anything after my maize farm sunk. My small tea farm was not spared either,"  Clement said as quoted.

The victims are already receiving help from people of goodwill like Governor's wife Elizabeth Ongwae who donated foodstuffs. The area MP Sylvanus Osoro has asked the government to resettle the victims in a secure area.
